SOLAR POWER NETWORK
Solar Power Network (SPN) is a Windsor-based distributed solar power company using the leased rooftops of industrial buildings. Over the next four years, SPN will invest $240M into 40MW of power on the unused rooftop space of 160 buildings. During 2010 we will be focused on signing leases, constructing and producing electricity on the first 40 sites.
Windsor is one of the best places in Ontario for generating solar electricity due to its southerly latitude, low cloud cover and low snow accumulation.
We will pay owners of buildings $20K up front and $1000/month (with cost of living increases) for a total of $298,460 over 20 years. This payment is for our standard rooftop envelope of 35,000 sq ft. Amounts are pro-rated for smaller buildings at least 15,000 sq ft.
Building owners will have the option of adjusting our standard offering to $100K up-front and $500 per month (per 35,000 sq ft) for a limited time.
THANK THE GREEN ENERGY ACT
Ontario Power Authority’s Feed-in Tariff now guarantees 20-year preferential rates to developers of renewable energy. Under this tariff, solar electricity is created and fed into the power grid, reducing the need for nuclear and coal-fired power plants. Only 1.5 years remain in OPA’s 2 year window for building-owners to be included in the 20-year program.
